CERAMICHE CEASAR: SCULPTURAL ART INSTALLATION
A TILED INFINITY WELL FOR CLERKENWELL DESIGN WEEK
“Our partner tasked us with creating a playful art installation that represents limitless imagination, to champion their hero tile collection”
Collaborating for the 3rd year at Clerkenwell Design Week, Ceramiche Caesar tasked us with creating a playful installation to champion their hero tile collection - JOIN.
JOIN is an incredibly ‘versa-tile’ collection with a vast array of available colours that can be cut into limitless shapes. The only limit is your imagination. Ceramiche Caesar’s brief was to create a tile installation that represents the idea of limitless imagination, with one small problem - we had very limited space to create it in! A roughly 2 x 2m space to be precise. We began by thinking of child’s play - the ultimate expression of imagination, often on a small scale. A child’s uninhibited curiosity allows them to approach the world with a sense of wonder and possibility, unrestricted by preconceived notions or practical limitations. We wanted to capture this essence and invite adults to reconnect with their inner child. This led us to the concept of an infinite kaleidoscopes table - a never ending tunnel of pattern.
The vibrant colors and intricate patterns within a kaleidoscope captivate the eyes. But this kaleidoscope would have a twist… It would be infinite! This object would embody infinite possibilities on a tiny footprint. Put simply, it’s bigger on the inside!
We created an infinity well using two-way mirrors to reflect a beautiful tiled design that clads the inside the object. The pattern is then reflected to infinity, creating a portal of the tiled design, representing the endless inspiration and imagination that comes from the wonderfully versatile product.
