Sky Sports were looking for an impressive way of promoting their show, Friday Night Football. We were tasked with designing and creating a colossal artwork on a football pitch, using only t-shirts.
Our XXL Art-Attack style portrait of the iconic Zlatan Ibrahimović was something Neil Buchanan would have been proud of. Confronted with the constraints of a limited colour palette, we digitally created a stencil effect to preserve Ibrahimović's true likeness. Our team then used 1200 football shirts from both Manchester United and Southampton teams to recreate the design, as the two clubs clashed on the night the stunt was aired. In order to assess our progress while building the artwork on the expansive canvas of the pitch, a grid system was used along with drone footage to gain an aerial perspective as the artwork evolved. A good craftsman never blames his tools. However, the drone-generated wind did shuffle the t-shirts out of place occasionally, one time even blowing his ear off. But we persevered, and through creative problem-solving, the final result culminated in this visually striking fusion of art and sport.
